Where do I refer a patient for psychiatric medication in Northern Virginia?
Rituality Wellness accepts psychiatric referral for patients ages 12 and up across Northern Virginia, in person in Haymarket and by telehealth statewide. Scope covers psychiatric evaluation and medication management for anxiety, depression, ADHD, trauma-related conditions, sleep, OCD and perinatal or perimenopausal mood changes.
Psychiatric referral comes mostly from therapists, primary care, pediatrics and OB practices. No formal form is required. An email or a phone call works.
What do I get back after I refer someone?
After a referred patient’s first appointment, with their consent, you receive a brief update covering what was assessed, the treatment plan, and anything relevant to ongoing care. You shouldn’t have to wonder whether your patient was seen, what was decided, or what comes next. Care coordination is built into the process. You refer the patient, the psychiatric care is handled, and you receive the information you need to stay informed and support the patient in your own practice. No chasing. No guessing. Just clear communication between providers.
What is in scope, and what falls outside it?
Psychiatric Referral Scope
In scope: Psychiatric evaluation, medication management, follow-up, and care coordination for patients 12 and older.
Outside scope: Crisis/after-hours services, inpatient care, ongoing psychotherapy, neuropsychological testing, forensic/custody evaluations, and patients under 12.
Note: Controlled medications require an in-person assessment under federal and Virginia regulations.
You keep the therapeutic relationship. We handle medication management with brief supportive therapy and psychoeducation built into visits—not ongoing therapy.
For OCD, ERP leads; medication supports it.
Two facts your front desk will want on a card: Patients ages 12 and up are welcome, including adolescent referrals. No prior contact from your office is required. Once you recommend a psychiatric referral, patients can book directly.
Universal perinatal depression screening only helps if positive screens have somewhere to go.
Perinatal mental health is a dedicated area of practice, including pregnancy, postpartum care, and medication questions during breastfeeding. Telehealth makes access easier for patients with newborns.
