Women's Mental Health
Perinatal & Perimenopause Care
You’ve been told it’s hormones. Or stress. Or just this stage of life.
Women’s mental health at Rituality Wellness includes evaluation and treatment of mood, anxiety, sleep, and related psychiatric concerns across the reproductive lifespan. This includes from pregnancy and postpartum through perimenopause and menopause.
peri/postpartum women experience significant mental health concerns
perimenopausal women experience mood symptoms

Is my mood related to hormones?
Sometimes hormonal changes are part of the picture, sometimes a psychiatric condition is, and sometimes several factors overlap.
Symptoms such as low mood, irritability, poor sleep, fatigue, anxiety, and difficulty concentrating can occur during hormonal transitions as well as with depression and anxiety disorders. A thoughtful evaluation looks at the whole pattern rather than assuming one explanation.
A women’s mental health evaluation looks at symptom timing, history, and what came first. When hormonal symptoms may be contributing, psychiatric care can work alongside your OB/GYN or other women’s health provider.
Rituality Wellness focuses on the psychiatric aspects of care while coordinating with the clinicians managing your reproductive and hormonal health when appropriate.
Mental health across life transitions
Pregnancy and postpartum can bring significant changes in mood and anxiety, while perimenopause and menopause can bring another period of vulnerability for some women.
Anxiety appearing for the first time at 47. Anger or irritability that feels unfamiliar. Brain fog frightening enough that women wonder about dementia.
Why does nobody take this seriously?
- Symptoms can overlap with normal life-stage changes.
- People may blame mood changes on circumstances.
- Pregnancy and postpartum mental health screening has become more routine, but getting from a positive screen to treatment can still be difficult.
- Perimenopausal mood changes are often overlooked.
- Proper assessment helps identify what’s really happening.
- Some women also feel more comfortable discussing reproductive and mental health concerns with a female provider.
- Your symptoms are real and deserve proper assessment.
How access works
Appointments are available in person at our Haymarket office and by telehealth across Virginia.
Telehealth can be especially helpful with a newborn or during any season when your schedule simply has no room to give.
A sample case study
An Illustrative Example. Not a real person.
A 47-year-old woman in South Riding schedules an evaluation after months of worsening sleep, irritability, anxiety, and difficulty concentrating. Her menstrual cycles have also become increasingly irregular, and she is concerned that something more than ordinary stress may be affecting how she feels.
The evaluation looks at the full picture, including the timing of her symptoms, psychiatric history, sleep, medical history, current medications, family history, and changes in her menstrual cycle. Rather than assuming the symptoms are caused entirely by depression, anxiety, or hormonal changes, the assessment considers how several factors may be interacting.
Her treatment plan focuses on the psychiatric symptoms that are interfering with daily life while also recommending coordination with her gynecologist to evaluate the hormonal and reproductive-health aspects of her care. Sleep, mood, anxiety, and cognitive concerns are monitored over time, and the plan is adjusted based on her response and evolving needs.
The goal is not to label every symptom as hormonal or psychiatric. It is to understand what is contributing, treat the symptoms that need attention, and coordinate care when multiple factors are involved.
Frequently asked questions
How do I find women's mental health care near me?
If you’ve searched women’s mental health near me and found nothing that names perimenopause or postpartum specifically, check current availability on the booking page. Haymarket in person, telehealth across Virginia.
Can a psychiatric provider prescribe hormones?
Rituality Wellness focuses on psychiatric evaluation and treatment rather than hormone replacement therapy. When hormonal treatment may be relevant, we can coordinate with your OB/GYN, primary care clinician, or other women’s health provider so the psychiatric and hormonal aspects of care are considered together.
Is medication safe during pregnancy or breastfeeding?
Medication decisions during pregnancy and breastfeeding are individualized. Some psychiatric medications have substantial safety data in pregnancy and lactation, while others require additional consideration. We review the potential benefits of treatment, the risks of untreated symptoms, medication-specific information, and your individual circumstances before making a recommendation. When appropriate, we coordinate with your OB/GYN or other provider.
Do you see women outside these life stages?
Yes. Rituality Wellness provides psychiatric care for women across adulthood. Pregnancy, postpartum, perimenopause, and menopause are areas of particular interest, but you do not need to be in one of these life stages to receive quality care from us.
